 Wedding Samples

For over 30 years now, I have been covering weddings and I just had some thoughts I wanted to share.  

 

One of the smallest was just the couple, the minister, and me at a small wedding chapel in Fort Lauderdale.  The bride’s ex-husband hired me as a gift for the bride.  I guess he was saying goodbye to alimony, who knows?   Incredibly, the same people were involved in the largest “wedding” I have done in terms of Brides and Grooms.  It was a triple wedding on Valentine’s Day at a dance club with 18 couples renewing their vows in honor of the place they all met.  Only one couple had a reception at a hall across the highway.  I even got to dance with the groom who was a dance instructor.

 

The furthest was a trip for a winter wedding in Denver, Colorado.  It was a five-day assignment with the rehearsal party, wedding, and day-after-wedding brunch.  I had some time for sightseeing in the Rockies and at the Garden of the Gods, and traveled with the mother and brother of the bride. 

 

Once we were asked to only photograph the groom’s family, and only in Black and White.  We pledged to stay out of the way of the other photographers, and as it turned out, they came in and photographed my set-ups in color. 

 

Weddings come in all sizes, types, colors, and feelings.  Some of them, you just feel the love coming through the whole family; others, there are struggles for them to be civil.  But the couple is what matters.  When we are hired to do a wedding, it is for the couple, no matter who is investing in our services.  We have been asked to help organize weddings for the next day, for a month down the road, and some people call me as soon as the engagement occurs, perhaps years ahead.
